Technology in the Classroom

Technology is an everyday part of life for most children. I believe that if teachers can find uses for technology in the classroom, that the students would be more willing to listen to what we have to say to them. Since children are growing up with technology in their homes, they know so how technology works and how it can help them. I hate to bring up church but I taught Primary for the summer and there was a six year old girl in my class. Every Sunday her family watched a church movie that depicted church stories. Because she watched these videos and knew how to extract information from them, she was able to recount the entire story in detail. It amazed me how much this six year old knew, and it is all due to the technology used in her home. This has convinced me of the amazing impact that technology can have on children, even young children.
I think that technology can be used for every subject. For example, in math and science, calculators and their many functions can make things clearer for some children. But as in everything that we teach it is important to accommodate each different learning style. I believe that teachers should provide opportunities for students to use technology but not always require it because it may not be the best style for all students.
I would consider myself a digital immigrant because while I do have experience with technology, I still have so much to learn. I think that the children in elementary school right now have as much knowledge about technology as I do. Therefore I believe that my future students will be digital natives, that I can learn new things from allowing them to teach their classmates as well as myself in order to find new ways to use technology in the classroom.
